Recently, we were asked to do some interior house painting for a Walnut Creek, California home. The owner was not sure what color to go with, so we steered them towards painting with the versatile grey palette of Sherwin Williams. Sherwin Williams has a number of great cool neutral colors to choose from. As professional painters we have found that shades of grey are trendy, easy to work with and create a neutral, pleasing backdrop for a wide range of fabrics, carpets and artwork. This versatility makes neutral greys a great option for re-painting a space that is already furnished. Neutral greys tend to go well with wood floors, stainless, white or black appliances.
Neutral Greys are not Black and White Mixed Together
One can achieve many interesting variations of grey by mixing in green, red and gold, creating any number of warm, neutral tones. Like Taupes, these grey, or “greige” colors work on the red/green dynamic. When compared side-by side, some of these colors read a bit “ruddier” and some read more verdant. Complex colors such as these are “chameleons”, and will appear different in changing light and will adapt to their surroundings, which makes them more interesting.
The Sherwin Williams Neutral Greys Palette
When interior painting with neutral greys, look at Sherwin Williams colors like Agreeable Grey (SW 7029), Versatile Grey (SW 6072), Amazing Gray (SW 7044). Also try their darker and lighter counterparts, Such as Functional Grey (SW 7024), Perfect Greige (SW 6073) and Anew Grey (SW 7030).
Our Walnut Creek clients eventually chose SW 7029, Agreeable Grey, with one red accent wall in the kitchen.
What is= greige? Well, it’s basically a cross between grey and beige. Greige colors are fantastic and go with just about anything. For more reading, check out https://www.thespruce.com/greige-best-neutral-color-ever-797930
