Color Touch Painting recently worked with QDM (Quality Does Matter) construction of Contra Costa County performing a home makeover in Danville, California. QDM modernized the bathroom and master bedroom. We contributed interior painting services including repainting cabinets, doors and stairway spindles for a modern look.

Painted wood stairway spindles and banister We first needed to brush the oak doors and cabinets to fill the wood grain and prevent bleed-through of the grain pattern. Natural wood has an uneven surface due to wood grain. So filling in the wood grain is critical to achieve a professional, smooth finish.

We then sprayed the balustrades and hall cabinets using a Graco air-assisted spray gun for a factory finish look. We chose Kelly Moore Dura-poxy gloss as our finish product due to its great adhesion, toughness and leveling. Cabinets, railings and spindles routinely get knocked or bumped in normal use. Therefore, the finish needs to be durable and easy to clean.

The greatest challenge repainting cabinets and spindles in this case was performing all of the work while the home was owner-occupied, however by compartmentalizing and careful planning, it all came off smoothly.
